Interview in Dwingeloo

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked for an interview by Hoe?Zo! Radio. They wanted to know what it is like for me as an amateur astronomer to work together with professional scientists (in the quest to find out the nature of my discovery). They also wanted to speak to one of these scientists and we ended up doing the interview at ASTRON. Besides being part of the Galaxy Zoo team, I was invited by Michael (Mike) Garrett to join the team at the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy, when I found Hanny’s Voorwerp. So Mike and I were both interviewed in his office.

For about an hour. We both got to choose a song to be played in between too and we both chose a Queen one, ha! (When I recently saw Brian, I already told him I ‘managed’ to get one of his songs on the radio again, which was never a single, and so on topic!) I also mentioned the Cosmic Tourist and – of course – how cool the Zoo is. I especially liked the bit where Mike said he’d leave the explanation of what the Voorwerp is up to me! As soon as I know when the interview will be broadcasted, I’ll let you know. Probably via a tweet.

After the interview, we were invited to join the ASTRON crew at their barbecue. Both the radio team and my boyfriend Steven and I. In the pictures below you can see where the party was at – at the roof top – but there was another entrance than shown here! There was also a live band of astronomers and it was great to catch up with a few people. In the evening, Steven and I stayed at the guesthouse and we had a walk around the beautiful area. We met a couple of students, who we’d probably see later at Mike’s garden party. But we couldn’t party now as work would make us get up early that morning…
