Weekend in Blighty: Born Free

Although the summer break hadn’t started just yet, I went for a weekend in England for a couple of reasons. The first one was the fact Brian is touring again with Kerry. I saw their Born Free Tour last year in Salisbury and loved the fact I could combine seeing them again with the planned ‘Zoo Con’ in Oxford (that would be the other reason for going over this weekend).

The gig was on the Friday night in Northampton and I flew in after work. On the plane I met a lovely guy called Iain, who told me he lives in the countryside AND loves the wildlife. (I figured this should give Brian hope). Anyway, the flight was a tad late, so I missed the first few songs of the show. But I had already texted them to let them know and upon arrival, the lovely Phil welcomed me.

The show was… stunning. That’s all I can say really. They left me in awe again. I later told Bri backstage that he may think I’m a normal friend, but when I’m in the audience I’m still a crying fangirl, haha! Seriously, it was so moving. If I’d have to name highlights, I’d probably go for Last Horizon and of course No One But You. Kerry’s voice…! And she’s such a charming person too (really nice to meet you!)

I also met the lovely Katie Paine, who’s currently playing the role of Killer Queen in We Will Rock You. I was telling her about how it was already my plan to take my new boyfriend to see the show, so we will go and see her soon! And Bri, great, great to see you again too; thanks for the warm welcome and the unforgettable evening. When I walked out, I heard someone say about the show: “That makes you realise life is not all that shit, doesn’t it?!”

I couldn’t agree more. Here are a couple of pictures of the show. There’s one capturing the moment I appeared in the video during the Kissing Me song, which I think is amusing. Jamie Cooper, who was there that evening too, took a couple of nice shots as well by the way! And in the next few blogs I’ll tell you about the Zoo Con meeting.
