Eureka!

I recently answered the question a lot whether the press is still keeping me “off the streets”. The answer is ‘yes’. A few days ago I spent the afternoon with two people from www.w24.nl.

The ‘w’ in that link stands for ‘wetenschap’, which is the Dutch word for ‘science’. The two people were Lars  – lovely camera guy with a lovely camera and Nienke, who’d interview me (and who I actually already knew from this great project and TV show ‘Energy Survival’, I participated in with one of my classes a few years ago). Anyway, they visited me at school when I’d just done my last lesson for the day.

Goal was to film me answering Nienke’s questions and while I was at work. The result will appear on their website and on national television in August in a program called ‘Science flash’ (channel NED 2). The show will be about all sorts of ‘Eureka-moments’ and they started out with my discovery of Hanny’s Voorwerp. It was a great day. The Sun was shining and we had a lot of fun. We left at 7.30pm, together with the cleaning crew.

The kids were very interested to hear how all of this works; ‘making TV’. Although they weren’t all very keen on being in the video themselves! I told them the next day about how I had to write things on the white board over and over again until it looked good on film and that we did some shots with me playing guitar, me ‘Galaxy Zoo-ing’ in one of the offices and some “beauty shots” outside, where I’d just have to look in the camera, or to the sky, while they recorded me from different angles.

We’re all looking forward to seeing the result. Meanwhile, here are some pictures of the day. Nienke took them with her mobile phone camera, while Lars was filming me. The first one’s from the classroom and the second one from the shots outside. To be in front of the camera, I had to express how flexible I was physically, in case you were wondering. Glamorous eh?!

One Trackback

  1. [...] Remember I did a TV interview at school back in May too (for Scienceflash)? Well, here’s the result. I also found the last interview I did for the BBC (at the Summit in London) in my mailbox recently, which you can hear back on their website as well. Ta!  [...]
