Hello!

I’m back in the Netherlands and though my other life needed my attention again too (the one in which I’m a teacher, a friend, a daughter and a student), I’m pleased to say I’m also still not done being ‘an ambassador for science’. I still owe you the scientific explanation of what’s going on with my Voorwerp and there’s a few other things I’ve been asked to write about, but to keep you updated: here’s what I did last week.

Wednesday I got a call from the well-known national TV news show ‘Hart van Nederland’ from channel SBS6, one of the two biggest commercial stations in the Netherlands. If they could visit me at school the next day and interview me and my students. My boss said yes and my students said it was a cool surprise. We were filmed during class, when I explained properly what I discovered and why I was in Seattle the week before.

Then the reporter asked my group of first year students to explain it themselves and he also wanted to know what it’s like to have a famous teacher (and if her attitude changed into one of a prima donna). I laughed when I heard I was pretty normal for a teacher. And although the two hours of recording were over before I knew it, and although only two minutes or so of that is shown on TV, I thought it was fun to see it back. And here you can too.

I’ve also heard from Jason Palmer. The nice BBC-reporter I met in Seattle and with whom I did the first interview on the other side of the pond. It was broadcast a few days ago and it made me smile hearing it back. You can also listen to it here.

This morning I got a call from a local (Dutch) radio station in Schiedam. They had requested this live interview via e-mail a few days ago and really gave me the time to explain my astronomical adventures. As a bonus, they played my requested Queen song ’39. And that interview was already sent to me too.

One thing always leads to another eh. Anyway, just so you know I’m still breathing and enjoying life even. Thanks as ever for the nice replies to these appearances; it’s nice to know people like the story and are getting involved in science themselves too. More soon, ta!

Oops, I came here before and left without a comment. Great to see the interview, Hanny, and all the other things going on in ‘Voorwerp World’. :)
