Hanny’s Voorwerp in the pictures.

As promised earlier on this blog, I updated the Voorwerp page with some nice new pictures of Hanny’s Voorwerp…

The first picture I added is from Albert van Duin. He works at ASTRON and sent me an e-mail a few days ago. His picture – which he took last Christmas – recently became the ‘Daily image’ of ASTRON / JIVE.

The second one is from Rick. He posted his picture of Hanny’s Voorwerp on the Bad Astronomy and Universe Today Forum. Edd spotted it and poked me. Rick gave me permission to post it here and added: “Just letting folks know such an odd object is within reach of amateur equipment was my goal.” And I think that’s great!

Last but not least, here’s finally for all to see the pretty picture Bill Keel and Anna Manning took with the 3.5-m WIYN (Wisconsin-Indiana-Yale-NOAO) telescope, at Kitt Peak, Arizona (pronounced like “win”). Bill joined the Galaxy Zoo team from the States, doing research on overlapping galaxies and Hanny’s Voorwerp. Every time when I e-mail him a question, I almost immediately get a very detailed and understandable answer back. And his Dutch is amazing too. Anyway, I love the dust in IC 2497 and it’s nice to have another picture of my green thingy.

If you’re reading this and you have a picture of Hanny’s Voorwerp too, which you would like to show the world through my blog, contact me. And for now: enjoy these three – thanks Bill, Anna, Rick and Albert!
