After Edd’s wonderful guest blog, I invited Graham to do one as well. They both help me run the technical side of this site and are very good at explaining stuff. So when I got an e-mail from the Mt. Lemmon Skycenter, I forwarded it to Graham and asked him if he’d like to explain it to me and my readers. Over to Graham Bowes, design director of Forepoint and moral support of me.
You know it’s amazing. The power that the internet brings to the individual. It allows us to communicate and meet like-minded people. I wouldn’t be telling the world about this science centre today, if it wasn’t for the internet. In fact I wouldn’t even know my dear friend Hanny.
As this site approaches 10,000 visits since it was launched a short time ago, it’s received all sorts of messages from all around the world. Some cool, like Dragen and Jimi’s observation of Hanny’s Voorwerp, some spam (of course) and others that are worth sharing with you all
One such message we received recently was from the Mt. Lemmon Skycenter about a very cool project in Tuscan Arizona. It offers not for profit outreach and educational astronomy programs. They have some great equipment that you can use including a 61 inch telescope. You get to rub shoulders with expert astronomers from the University of Arizona and they welcome kids and adults.
Their video gives you a flavour of the amazing things you can see there. So if you are local or just passing by it could be well worth a visit. It costs $48 per person for an evening program. So if you want to reach out and see the heavens, this might well be just the thing for you.
