As I was just rounding up the past calendar year, twenty-twelve, I found out that I never published my highlights of ‘11, even though I had planned to. I first did this for ’10 and I was thinking of making it a tradition. For personal sentimental reasons only, really. So I’ve decided to end this year with my highlights of last year and I want to thank everyone again for making it a great one. I’m still such a lucky girl, as 2012 was amazing too. But I’ll post those highlights next year (i.e. tomorrow).
Anyway, I hope all you readers out there can (mentally) make such a list tonight too, as we’re changing calendars. Wherever you are, celebrating this fact. Have a fun New Year’s Eve everybody! X
Highlights of the year, in no particular order:
1. Saluting the New Year with Radio 2’s Top 2000 over my new sound system.
2. The week in Seattle, USA and meeting everybody at the AAS meeting.
3. Finally presenting the Hubble picture of Hanny’s Voorwerp.
4. Being interviewed for Dutch television again: Hart van Nederland and BNN.
5. The interviews for the Groen Onderwijs magazine and being live on Astronomy FM.
6. Cycling in the rain, especially the times while singing.
7. Seeing an old teacher of mine again at the open day of my school.
8. The drawings I had to make for my course.
9. The fun conversations with colleagues about non-sense that makes sense to us.
10. Learning how to make and drink coffee (yes).
11. My dear colleague giving me his old biology books.
12. Reliving the ski-experience at indoor ski-place SnowWorld.
13. Catching up with Brian (May) at Astrofest.
14. Meeting Brian Cox at Astrofest.
15. After-partying in London with Galaxy Zoo friends.
16. Staying at Annie’s in London and meeting Fitzy and Dave.
17. That I was asked to write articles for Astronomy Now and Sky and Telescope.
18. Watching Love Actually with my good friend Richard.
19. Seeing the Lion King in 3D.
20. And We Will Rock You in Utrecht (also with Richard).
21. Agreeing with him on how cool Bassie & Adriaan still are.
22. Seeing a beautiful Luna, ISS pass, and a flock of crane birds.
23. Lecturing in Middelburg, Leiden, Zutphen and Paris.
24. Taking in Paris again.
25. Visiting Dutch cities Den Bosch, Eindhoven and Maastricht.
26. The Elephant Parade in Heerlen (!) and jumping over a fence to photograph them all.
27. The Ecology Weekends in Zwolle.

29. The picnic in Greenwich and drinking champagne in London.
30. Travelling with my dear friend Els.
31. Walking in the forest with Janey and Erik and Erik’s dog.
