Astronomy Picture Of the Day

Galaxy Zoo, the online astronomy project on which I discovered Hanny’s Voorwerp, is featured on the very popular APOD website again!

And I’m guessing that if you’re reading this today, there’s a big chance you’ve found this place because of the mention of my discovery there. So I thought I’d put a proper welcome message to all of you who’ve never heard of it before or thought to check out if there’s any news on it.

If you’re one of those few people who has no idea what I’m talking about, a good place to start is my ‘about’ page. To see all the pictures there currently are of my Voorwerp, or read how I – as a complete amateur – found it, see the Voorwerp page. I also have a collection of links to media attention and information from real astronomers. And if you were looking for updates, my ‘discoveries’ category of the blog part of this site will give you that.

I think it’s very cool that the people from APOD gave Galaxy Zoo a mention and in doing so, asked the (also amateur) volunteers a.k.a. ‘Zooites’, to put something together for it.

When you have a question, don’t hesitate to contact me, or to leave a comment on this blog.

By the way, I’ve used this image I had put together, in case they wanted to use galaxies shaped as letters only. The galaxies actually have this form and are not modified in Photoshop!
I’ve also made the APOD picture OOTD on the Galaxy Zoo forum: http://www.galaxyzooforum.org/index.php?topic=276534.0
