The World Première of The Hubble picture of Hanny’s Voorwerp!

Will be on the 10th of January 2011, at the AAS meeting in Seattle, 12.45pm local time and I will be there!

If Bill (Keel) counted zones properly, it will be 9.45pm in The Netherlands, so 8.45pm GMT. He also just mailed me saying he just told the AAS press coordinator I’ll be there and his response to that was that he expects me to be ‘the voorwerp of attention from the reporters’. Bill wasn’t sure the joke translated well and I can assure you it doesn’t, but that made me laugh!

I have known this news for quite a while and my boss made sure I could have the days off (which is not usual for teachers here), but I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone else before now. This was rather hard, as lots of nice and interested people have asked me several times. I did keep nagging the poor Zoo team -especially Chris- and therefore I’m very happy it’s finally out there!

Among the people who asked me were a few reporters and if you are one reading this: there will be a more official press release about it shortly, but right at this moment I don’t even know what the embargo is going to be. I’ll comment on this blog with updates like that.

Since I just announced it on Twitter, my laptop keeps giving ‘ping-sounds’ to the beat of the music of the yearly top 2000, alerting me I have another lovely response to the news. A big thank you everyone! I am very excited about the party in Seattle (and the long flight to the US) in only eleven days from now!

So the countdown indeed began. See for more details also Bill’s blog over at the Zoo page.

Cheers,

Hanny.

And just an extra thought: if you *really* want to be kept updated, consider following me on twitter. I’ll be tweeting about the trip and from the event whenever I can: http://twitter.com/hannyvanarkel ;)
